Error: "The security policy prevents the creation of a managed device because a custom OS is or has been installed on this device"

We have handled some support cases about the issue which happens before the Work managed device provisioning. Some Samsung devices states the error "The security policy prevents the creation of a managed device because a custom OS is or has been installed on this device" when trying to e.g.read the QR code. We assume the reason for this issue is the wrong time setting in the device. To fix this, you will need update the time on the device by either connecting to wifi or cellular data (insert SIM-card), or by manually changing it in the set-up screen. After this is done you will be able to provision the device. Usually that should help.

UPDATE: Please see Samsung's document about that error here:

Hi Jarkko,

I am experiencing this problem on approx 40 x Samsung devices I am trying to enrol using the QR code.  As per the above and advised by Harry in your support team, I have inserted a working SIM card in the device(s) but I am still getting the same error.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

i had the same issue. at some points there are bugs in Samsung Devices. I found a workaround by using the DPC Token for Enrollment: afw#miradore

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the feedback.

I have now tried to enrol using the QR code, NFC using my own phone as the host and also using the token afw#miradore.

In all cases, I get the same error and cannot enrol the device(s).

Frustratingly as I am in the middle of a mobile refresh and after 2 days it' still not working, I'm guessing it's just 'not going to work' so I will revert back to Sophos EMM.

Kind Regards

Rob.
