This article describes how to remotely start iOS software update on managed iOS devices.
Requirements
- Enterprise Plan subscription or trial.
- Devices are supervised and DEP-enrolled. For more information see About Apple Device Enrollment Program
When these requirements are met, the simplest way to start software update is to open the Devices page, select the target device(s) from the view and click Actions > Software update from top of the page.
The status of the action can be seen from the Management > Action log page or from the device action log.
When the action is started the software update command is sent to the device. If there is a passcode on the device, a user must enter it to start a software update. If update package has already been downloaded to the device the action is updated into Installing status. Otherwise the device starts to download the update and the action is updated into Downloading status. When the software update has been installed and installed OS version changes the status of the action is updated to Completed.
