Restrictions for Windows Phones

Restriction configuration profiles are described thoroughly in the About restrictions article. It explains how to configure and deploy restrictions for managed devices, and also how the restrictions can be lifted.

This article focuses on introducing what restrictions are supported for Windows Phone devices and whether there are any platform-specific requirements for the use of restrictions.

Requirements

Restriction configuration profiles can be applied to all Windows Phones that are managed with Miradore.

Restriction configuration profiles are available in the Miradore Business and Enterprise plans. The restriction configuration profiles are not included in the Miradore Free plan

 

Available restrictions

Below you can find a list of all restrictions supported on the Windows Phone platform. Tab names are underlined.

 

Applications

Browser

Defines whether the use of Internet Explorer application is allowed or denied on the device.

Cortana

Defines whether Cortana (personal assistant) is available or not on the device.

Store

Defines whether the use of the Store application is allowed or denied on the device.

 

Connectivity

Bluetooth

Defines whether the use of Bluetooth is allowed or denied on the device.

Cellular data roaming

Defines whether cellular data roaming is allowed or denied on the device.

NFC

Defines whether the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) is allowed or denied on the device.

USB connection

Defines whether the use of a USB connection is allowed or denied on the device.

VPN over cellular

Defines whether VPN connections over cellular are allowed or denied on the device.

VPN roaming over cellular

Defines whether VPN roaming over a cellular connection is allowed or denied on the device.

 

Device functionality

Action center notifications

Defines whether action center notifications are allowed or denied on the device.

Camera

Defines whether the use of the camera is allowed or denied on the device.

Copy paste

Defines whether the use of copy and paste is allowed or denied on the device.

Location service usage

Defines whether the usage of location service is allowed or denied on the device.

Screen capture

Defines whether screen captures are allowed or denied on the device.

Telemetry

Defines whether the device is allowed to send telemetry information, such as Software Quality Management (SQM) and Watson.

Voice record

Defines whether or not voice recording is allowed on the device.

 

Security and privacy

Add non Microsoft email accounts

Defines whether or not the device user is allowed to add non-Microsoft email accounts.

Authentication with Microsoft account

Defines whether or not the device user is allowed to use Microsoft account for non-email related connection authentication and services.

Developer unlock

Defines whether it is allowed to register the device for development usage to install and test non-store applications.

Manual factory reset

Defines whether the device user is allowed to reset the device to factory settings from settings control panel or using the hardware key combination.

Manual installation of root certificates

Defines whether the device user is allowed to manually install root and intermediate CAP certificates.

Manual unenrollment

Defines whether the device user is allowed to delete the workplace account from the device via the workplace control panel.

 

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi

Defines whether the use of WiFi is allowed or denied on the device.

Hotspot auto connection

Defines whether the device is allowed or denied to automatically connect to Wi-Fi hotspots.

Hotspot reporting

Defines whether the device is allowed or denied to report Wi-Fi hotspot information to Microsoft.

Internet sharing

Defines whether internet sharing over Wi-Fi is allowed or denied on the device.

Manual Wi-Fi configuration

Defines whether the device user is allowed to manually connect the device to Wi-Fi networks that are not provided through the mobile device management.

 

Other

Safe search mode

Defines what level of safe search (filtering adult content) is required on the device.

Strict: The highest filtering against adult content.

Moderate: Valid search results will not be filtered.

Save Office files

Defines whether the device user is allowed to save Office files to the device.

Settings synchronization

Defines whether the device is allowed to synchronize settings among other devices.

Share Office files

Defines whether the device user is allowed to share Office files.

Storing images from vision search

Defines whether BingVision is allowed to store the contents of the images captured when performing BingVision search.

Use of location in search

Defines whether the device location information is allowed to be leveraged in search.
