How to install applications to Android devices

Follow

This article describes how to remotely install applications to managed Android devices. If you're interested in application management, consider upgrading your site to the Enterprise Plan. See more in How to upgrade subscription for more information.

With Android application management, you can remotely install Google Play applications to Android devices. Paid applications are also supported, but the device user(s) must purchase the application prior to installation. In order to be able to remotely install an application, it must be available in Google Play, the user must be signed in to Google Play with his/her account, and accept the installation. The installations cannot be forced to a device nor can the applications be installed quietly in the background.

Another application type for Android devices is the Android Application Package (APK) download. Applications are installed by uploading the APK file to Miradore or by defining an URL where the APK is downloaded from.

Applications must be added to Miradore before they can be deployed to managed devices.

Check How to add Android Google Play application if you want to deploy an application from the Google Play store.

Check How to add Android APK download application if you want to deploy an application by providing an HTTP link to the application package or by uploading the application package to Miradore.

After you have successfully created the application you can start deploying it. There are numerous ways the application deployments can be done in Miradore. In the following example we will use the applications page.

1. Navigate to Management > Applications where you can see the list of current applications.

2. Select the application that you wish to deploy. Click Deploy button to open a wizard for deploying the application.

Select the desired devices and click Next.

3. Validate the deployment details and click Deploy to start installation.

4. In the last screen of the deployment wizard, you'll see a notification which tells you whether the deployment was successfully added to the deployment queue or not. You may exit the deployment wizard by clicking Close.

The end-user of the device will see a notification on his/her phone status bar and must accept the installation. The exception to this rule is APK Download installations on Samsung SAFE enabled devices. In those cases, the application is installed silently without any confirmation required from the user.

Clicking the notification on the status bar opens the Miradore Online Client.

By clicking OK, the user is forwarded to the application's Google Play Store page where he/she can complete the installation.

The administrator can monitor the status of the deployment, for example, by navigating to the Management > Action log page or by navigating to the device page and opening the Action log tab.

The list of completed deployments for a device can be seen from the Application deployments table on the Main tab of the device page.
